The figures also show that while the Windows Phone 8 platform has been slow to take off, it has almost caught up with the existing Windows Phones while Windows Phone 7 has seen its share drop to 57 percent.
The latest figurs regarding global smartphone shipments suggest that Windows Phone 8 Handsets currently account for 5 percent of the market, compared with Apple's 21 percent and Android's 70 percent.
